    Description

This auction is for an original sheet that I found in a 1948 Stan Kenton program (the program is not included, just the sheet that lists the titles of the music to be performed, the soloist and the composer. (I included a scan of the front of the program that this sheet came out of for reference only - THE PROGRAM IS NOT INCLUDED) The sheet in this auction measures 8-1/2" x 11". The sheet reads at the top "Presenting the Artistry in Rhythm of Stan Kenton and his Orchestra in A Concert of Progressive Jazz". Some of the titles to be performed included: Laura, Unison Riff, Machito, Tea for Two, Monotony, Safranski, Lover, Peanut Vendor, Artistry is Boogie, June Christy Bongo Riff, Three Bop, Three Bop, etc. Some of the Soloists listed included: Laurindo Almeida, Stan Kenton & trombone section, Eddie Safranski, Shelly Mann, George Weidler, Jack Costanzo, Art Pepper - Bob Cooper - Conte Candoli. Some of the Composers included: Kenton, Raskin, Rugolo, Youmans, Kerns, etc. The sheet is not dated, but I believe it is from 1948. I estimate this date by looking in the program it came from. The program (NOT IN THIS AUCTION) lists the newest Stan Kenton album as CD-79 "A Presentation of Progressive Jazz" came out in May, 1948 and the latest single "Interlude"/"How High the Moon" Cap No. 15117 came out in June of 1948. (The program booklet that this would have been inserted in would have been sold at all the venues during this tour, while the sheet in this auction would only have been used at the dates they were going to perform these pieces and the titles may have changed as the tour progressed.) The sheet is in good condition except for some wear/tears along the bottom - the sheet is yellowed with age - there is a vertical crease down the middle, probably from when the original owner folded the program during the concert - the bottom 1/4" of the sheet has some wear, small tears, marks - there are a couple small (1/2") marks/light tear about 3-1/2" from the bottom - there are a few smaller creases.
