Description
Inscription on bottom says: “‘Harvest’ Ware Wade England.” This is a wide-bodied jug or creamer pitcher with large spout and curved handle. It is copper lusterware all over — no images — a rarity. It measures 4 1/4” top to bottom; the spout stands 1/4” higher; the body is 5” wide; it’s 6 1/2” from end of spout to end of handle; and the base is 3 1/4” in diameter. The hallmark on the bottom — see photo — matches one shown online with date range of 1947-55.
Copper luster ware was made by applying a copper solution to the pottery before the final firing stage. Wade Heath developed a reputation for their copper lusterware and this squat jug is a fine example of their work. It was manufactured by Royal Victoria Pottery Works, Burslem, Staffordshire, England, in 1953, judging from the trademark on the bottom. Wade Heath & Co. was founded in 1867.
