COUNT BASIE
Description
Scarce and highly collectible original vintage concert program produced for
Count Basie and His Orchestra’s
two performances at the Kurzaal in Scheveningen and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on 26th March, 1960, presented by Lou van Rees. By the start of the 1960s, Basie was hugely popular in Europe and two concerts on the same day weren’t unusual. Fronted by singer Joe Williams, this was around the time of the release of
Just the Blues
, and the orchestra for the Spring 1960 European tour consisted of Joe Newman, Snooky Young, Thad Jones, George Cohn (trumpets); Benny Powell, Al Grey, Henry Coker (trombones); Fran Wess, Marshall Royal, Billy Mitchell, Frank Foster, Charlie Fowlkes (saxophones); Freddie Green (guitar); Eddie Jones (bass); and Sonny Payne (drums). A couple of concerts from this European tour (Paris and Milan) were recorded and eventually released.
