Description

NOTE - German Silver is a metal alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc. It is named for its silvery appearance but contains no silver.
George Kent began manufacturing industrial instruments in London in 1838. This is my Dad's pre-war set. The ruling pens in this set are made of polished steel with turned handles, the length of each is about four inches. The spring bows are made of polished steel with turned German silver handles. The large compass, its extension arm, and lead and ink tips are German silver and steel. The German silver is bright, and all of the steel parts are polished like mirrors. There are a few small places where some rust has developed but they are few. This set really looks exceptional, and easy 9 on a 10 scale.
These instruments are all signed Kent. The wooden bar-lock case is covered with black leather and lined with black satin and velvet. A silver metal plate on the lid is signed KENT and the compartment inside the lid holks a KENT celluloid protractor.
A similar set is in the Simthonian collection:
